In this article, we'll go through the process of creating a post, including how to navigate to the post section and how to fill out all the relevant information. Let's get started:
First, we're going to start by clicking on the 'posts' section on the menu to the left-hand side. We'll be able to see all previous posts and a button near the top that says 'add post', which we'll click on next.
After that, we should see a blank post that we can start filling out with content and categories to fill out as well. The title of the post will be our first heading, H1, and other headings will be either H2, H3, and so on. For main headings, use H2, and for subheadings, use H3 and H4. Make sure to only use one H1 for each page.
On the right, we can see categories to fill out for our post. This includes the author, the featured image, categories and tags, the status and the slug. Let's go through some of these now:
The slug is important to get right the first time, as changing it later could involve a redirect. When you fill out the H1 title, the slug will be filled out with that title, with a - between each word. Most of the time, you can make the slug the main keyword that you want to rank for and remove all other filler words from the slug. This comes across cleaner than having the full title.
It's important to choose a category for each post. You can create a category right there in the post you are editing. You'll want to choose something that connects various kinds of posts together, like a core service or company news, that readers will find helpful.
You'll want to make sure each post has a featured image, which you can set at the top of the category bar. It would also be helpful to include images in the post itself to make the post engaging to read. Make sure you fill out the alt text for the images that describes what is happening in the image.
When you're ready to publish the article, click 'publish' in the top right of the page. You can come back later to make changes and update the post. If you aren't ready to publish yet, you can save it as a draft.
Lastly, after the post is done, we'll want to fill out the meta title and meta description. There may not be an option to fill these out ahead of time, so we'll need to go to the post after it's uploaded. When you're logged in as an admin, go to the post on your website and click the icon pictured below. You'll be able to fill out the meta title and description. Follow the guidelines for character and pixels, you'll want to be within the recommended range so your post looks good on google search results.
And that should be everything! Hopefully you found this article helpful in reaching your goals.
